SOULE LIVE STEAM FESTIVAL, Meridian, MS [2015 PHOTOS - SET 01]
« on: October 01, 2015, 12:28:55 AM »

This year's Steam Festival at the Soule Museum will be on November 6th and 7th, 2015 from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.

Edit:

We got back from the Soule Steam Festival yesterday, and I am still unloading engines and getting photos sorted and resized.

Here is a video I pieced together yesterday from the show this year.

It was a great show, and there were more engines on display and running on steam this year.

What a great bunch of folks who run this show.  It is the most dynamic and hands-on steam display I have ever seen.

Here are the photos from the 2015 Soule Steam Festival (continued):

Edit:
There was a young fellow who built a double-action solenoid engine (photo below), and it ran so much like a steam engine that he displayed it at the table with my dad's engines.
I did not get a photo of him, but perhaps I can get that next year and post it.
The young people who show an interest in these things are the future of the hobby, and so I highly encourage them when I get a chance.

My wife got a photo of some school children who visited the festival, and the teacher marched the students (lots of them) into the museum, and told them to keep about 4 feet back from my dad's engines.
I quickly went around the table and told her to tell them to step up to the table and touch everything (carefully), spin the flywheels, study the mechanisms, compare the various configurations, etc., and they really liked the hands-on learning.
I will post a photo of that when my wife sends it to me.

I know the folks at the big model engine shows like N.A.M.E.S have a lot of time invested in their engines, and the last thing they want is dozens of kids playing with them, but this show is different, and teaching young people about steam engines is very much about what my dad intended when he built and displayed his engines at the various shows, and he always encouraged the young people to look at and touch his engines, and even gave one engine to a young fellow (about age 6) at the last engine show he attended.
