Engine of 1851 paddle tug "Clyde"

Took a trip down the river Clyde from Glasgow on the paddle steamer "Waverley" yesterday. Passed this engine at Renfrew ferry which prompted me to look up and post a link to some nice photos of it here  ...

Thanks for the link, very interesting engine.

I am scratching my head a bit on that one, I see the two cylinders, the crankshaft, connecting rod, eccentrics, but can't quite see the connection between the piston rods and the crankshaft.  The crosshead must be towards the bottom of the engine.

I take it this was a paddlewheel engine?

Looks like an early marine engine.
I will have to do some research on that one.

Edit:  Yes I see the text now, the engine for the "paddle tug Clyde, 1851".  A good example of an early marine configuration.
