National President and Board Chair

Tom Goerke BE(Hons) GAICD FIEAust CPEng EngExec NER is Engineers Australia’s National President and Board Chair. Tom became a Fellow of Engineers Australia in 2021 and joined the Board in 2023.

Tom is an electronics engineering graduate from Curtin University and runs his own advisory firm specialising in technology and innovation and provides advice to boards on how digital transformation applies to their organisation. He spent the early part of his career in London working in telecommunications for international treaty organisations Inmarsat, ICO Global Communications and Cisco UK. He then co-founded a Singapore startup before re-joining Cisco Systems in Australia.

At Cisco, Tom worked on developing new technologies for emerging markets and then established Cisco’s innovation centre program across Australia and New Zealand in partnership with universities, industry and government. The centres were at the leading edge of co-innovation, leveraging emerging engineering and technology to accelerate digital transformation for businesses.

Tom holds multiple patents in the field of communications. In 2021 Tom was appointed an Adjunct Professor at Curtin University and member of the Science and Engineering Faculty Advisory Council. He is passionate about technology, skills development and the use of digital technologies to accelerate decarbonisation and transition to net zero.

Lachlan Blackhall FTSE FRSN BE BSc PhD SMIEEE FIEAust CPEng EngExec NER joined the Engineers Australia Board in 2023. Lachlan is Chair of the People and Governance Committee and a member of the Member and Stakeholder Committee.

Lachlan has more than 15 years' experience in the energy sector, including senior leadership roles in research and development, industry, policy and regulation. Lachlan is currently chair of NEPKI, an organisation that provides national public key infrastructure services to Australia’s energy sector.

Lachlan's previous roles include Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) at the Australian National University (ANU), Entrepreneurial Fellow and Head of the Battery Storage and Grid Integration Program at ANU and Chief Technology Officer and co-founder of Reposit Power.

Lachlan is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and is a Fellow of Engineers Australia, the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering and the Royal Society of NSW.

Kourosh Kayvani FTSE BSc MEngSc PhD MAE FIEAust CPEng NER joined the Engineers Australia Board in 2021. Kourosh is a director of Engineering Education Australia and a member of the People and Governance and Nominations Committees.

Kourosh is a Partner of HKA and leads its Forensic Technical Services in the Asia Pacific. He was previously the Global Managing Director – Design, Innovation and Eminence of Aurecon and a member of its global C-suite from 2017–2020. 

Over his 30-year engineering career, Kourosh has played leading roles in the design, delivery, and expert advisory for many complex projects across the globe. His project portfolio includes Wembley Stadium in London, West Kowloon Terminus in Hong Kong, Barito Suspension Bridge in Indonesia, Lusail Stadium in Qatar and such projects in Australia as ANSTO OPAL nuclear reactor, the Sydney International Hockey Stadium, Melbourne Star Observation Wheel, Civic Tower, ANZ Tower, 5 Martin Place and CommBank Stadium in Sydney, among many others.

Kourosh is an Adjunct Professor at the School of Engineering, Design and Built Environment at Western Sydney University. He graduated as a Civil Engineer from the University of Tehran and has a master’s degree and a PhD in Structural Engineering from UNSW, Australia. He is a Chartered Professional Engineer, a Fellow of Engineers Australia and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering. Kourosh is a Good Design Ambassador with Good Design Australia and a member of the Senate for FIDIC Academy.

Kourosh is the winner of the 2016 John Connell Gold Medal from the Structural College of Institution of Engineers Australia. He is a Laureate of IABSE Prize awarded by the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering for his work on long-span structures world-wide. He has also been cited among Engineers Australia’s Top 100 Most Influential Engineers in Australia.

Liza Maimone BE(Hons)(Chem) GDipEnergy&ResourcesLaw MAICD FIEAust CPEng EngExec NER joined the Engineers Australia Board in 2022. Liza is Chair of the Nominations Committee and a member of the People and Governance Committee.   

A chemical engineer and business leader with a passion for sustainability, and brings with her a wealth of engineering and corporate experience and expertise. Liza aims to use her skills to support Engineers Australia in achieving its vision of advancing society through great engineering.

Liza has more than 30 years’ professional experience providing risk, governance, sustainability and climate change advice and assurance services across a range of industries to senior management and boards.

Liza is the CEO of Fyfe, an Australian integrated engineering, environment, planning and surveying business. From 2020 to 2024, Liza held the role of PwC Australia’s Chief Operating Officer and Sustainability Executive. Liza has also been a director of PwC ASEANZ Consulting, PwC’s regional Consulting business, and a member of several PwC global committees. Prior to that, Liza led PwC’s consulting business in Australia.

Liza is a Member of the Australian Accounting Standards Board, Chair of the Standards and Integrity Committee of Accounting for Nature, Director of the Melbourne International Jazz Festival and a member of its Finance Committee, and she is an Advisory Board Member of Triple Eight Capital. Liza is a Member of Chief Executive Women and a Member of AICD.

Peter McIntyre headshot

Peter McIntyre BSc BE(Hons) MBA FAICD FIEAust CPEng EngExec joined the Engineers Australia Board in 2025. He is the Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee and a member of the Member and Stakeholder Committee. Peter was formerly the Chief Executive Officer of Engineers Australia (2016–2019).

An electrical engineer who spent most of his career in electricity transmission, Peter was formerly the Managing Director of the NSW electricity network service provider Transgrid (2010–2016) and served as a non-executive director on the Board of Tasnetworks (2016–2022). He also served on the Boards of the Australian Power Institute, Energy Networks Australia and Grid Australia and as the Chief Executive Officer of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (2019–2022). Since 2023, he has been Chief Executive Officer of CIGRE Australia.

Peter is based in Sydney and has a passion for sustainability, leadership, humanitarian and Indigenous issues and the development of the engineering workforce. He is also a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Lisa Vitaris MBA GAICD CompIEAust EngExec was appointed to the Engineers Australia Board in 2021. She is Chair of the Member and Stakeholder Committee and a member of the Audit and Risk Committee.

Lisa is CEO and Founder of Indo-Pacific Space, an advisory and consulting practice focused on accelerating the growth of the Indo-Pacific’s emerging space industry. She is also Strategic Advisor, Indo-Pacific, and Bid Director for IAC 2029 Houston for the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).

She serves on the Advisory Board of Monolith LLC, which develops mission management programs to support emerging space nations, and is an Honorary Board Director for Space4Climate, a global initiative helping millions of school students understand the critical role of space in addressing climate change.

Lisa is a globally recognised voice in the space sector, having presented at the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) in Vienna, at COP30 in Brazil, and at leading international forums spanning space, health, mining and technology.

Previously, Lisa served as Interim CEO of the Space Industry Association of Australia (SIAA) and Director of IAC 2025 Sydney, which attracted more than 7400 delegates and 19,500 public attendees, delivering approximately AUD $42 million in economic impact to New South Wales.

Her executive career spans high-growth and listed organisations across space, technology, telecommunications, financial services, automotive and tourism. She has held senior leadership roles including Chief Marketing Officer, working with brands such as amaysim (Optus), Tyro, CMC Markets, Hyundai, Tourism Tasmania, Volvo and LG.

In addition to her work in space, Lisa is Founder and Director of 10 Pieces, a sustainability initiative focused on environmental action and behaviour change, reflecting her commitment to climate and responsible innovation.

Lisa is an Engineering Executive (EngExec) and Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD). She holds a Master of Business (International Marketing) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA).
